Living in this world of ups and down to the age of 98 was no mean feat. It was more than a life well spent. It was the very epitome of God’s grace. And so when the matriarch of the Daodu family of Oka-Akoko, Madam Susannah Ayi Daodu, nee Oripeloye was finally called home by her maker, the children and the entire families decided to roll out the drums to celebrate this woman of grace and cornucopia of true motherhood.
Having a son like Prince Akin Daodu, the Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Aróle Oòduà , the Ọá»ni of Ife and several well to do and highly successful children and grandchildren truly guaranteed a well attended and highly successful celebration of life and the Daodus and Oripeloyes did not disappoint.
And so from Monday February 15 to Saturday February 22, the city of Ibadan and later the ancient town of Oka-Akoko were in a solemn celebratory mood as the final rites of Mama’s passage were done.
Right from the Evening of Praise and Commendation service at the African Church, Ebenezer Cathedral, Anfani Layout, Ring Road to the Lying in State at the Family House, Okia, Oka-Akoko and then the Funeral Service at St. David’s African Church, Okia followed by a Grand Reception before the finale of Saturday culminating in traditional and cultural activities, Mama’s transition was celebrated with commendable pomp and pageantry befitting a truly worthy mother.
