Lagos | September 12, 2025 – Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has assured fans of the hygiene standards ahead of her much-anticipated attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
In a video shared on Instagram on Friday, Baci was seen inside a six-metre-wide custom-made pot, scrubbing its interior with a branded detergent. She explained that she personally took charge of cleaning to ensure that the cooking vessel was spotless.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself,” she wrote, adding that the pot would host “thousands of servings of Nigerian jollof history in the making.”
The chef, who made headlines in May 2023 after completing a 100-hour cooking marathon that earned her a Guinness World Record, reassured guests that the pot would be thoroughly sanitised before use.
“I can assure you that once I am done washing the interior of the pot and I’ve gotten rid of all the liquid, I’m going to rinse it again, and I have brand new mopsticks that I would be using to clean it once again before we use it to cook for you,” she said in the video.
The free public event, organised in partnership with seasoning brand Gino, is expected to attract over 20,000 guests, as Baci aims to set a new world record for the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
Baci promised participants “the most amazing, hygienic food you’ve ever eaten,” while encouraging Nigerians to see the event as both a celebration of culinary excellence and a unifying cultural experience.
