The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently visited him in Port Harcourt, accompanied by two governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as part of peace efforts.
Wike disclosed this on Monday during a live media chat, where he stated that the visit was aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. He described the visit as a peace gesture initiated by Governor Fubara, who expressed a desire to end the rift between the two political figures.
“Yes, he came. He came with two governors and one other person,” Wike said. “Unfortunately, the two governors are APC governors, so I won’t go after them. He said he wants peace, and that’s fine. I want peace too.”
Wike, a former Rivers State Governor, described Fubara’s political troubles as “a self-inflicted injury,” accusing the governor of ignoring advice from senior political leaders who had attempted to mediate earlier in the conflict.
He revealed that in the past, he had invited Fubara to a meeting attended by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom; former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu; and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, but Fubara allegedly failed to act on their counsel.
The meeting comes amid a prolonged power tussle between Wike and Fubara, which has deepened political tensions in Rivers State and drawn national attention.
