The Federal Government has clarified that patients in the Northwest are not excluded from its kidney dialysis subsidy scheme, currently being piloted across 11 federal tertiary health institutions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said the initiative has reduced the cost of a dialysis session from about ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
The statement, signed by the Deputy Director and Head of Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, explained that the subsidy is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at easing the financial burden on patients with kidney-related diseases while promoting universal health coverage.
“The Ministry emphasises that the Northwest is not excluded. This pilot phase will be expanded to cover more federal hospitals across the country in due course, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing life-saving dialysis services,” the statement read.
Hospitals currently offering the subsidised dialysis include:
- Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital
- University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital
- Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital
- University of Jos Teaching Hospital
- National Hospital, Abuja
- Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta
- University College Hospital, Ibadan
- University of Benin Teaching Hospital
- Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa
- Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri
- Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki
The government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling non-communicable diseases and improving access to quality healthcare for Nigerians.
