The Federal Government has delivered vital power transmission equipment to Ekiti State as part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply across the region.
The delivery, which includes equipment and accessories for two 132/33KV substations along with transmission lines, was received at the Omisanjana 132/33KV station in Ado Ekiti on Saturday. The equipment was handed over by the Federal Government through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, received the consignment on behalf of the state, alongside TCN General Manager in Ekiti, Victor Famoroti. Aluko confirmed that the new substations will be installed in Ilupeju Ekiti and Ijesa Isu Ekiti, with a switching station located in Ikere Ekiti, to significantly boost bulk power transmission to the state’s northern and other senatorial districts.
“This delivery marks a crucial step in revolutionizing Ekiti’s power infrastructure,” Aluko said. “The two substations will add a total capacity of 240MVA—featuring four 60MVA transformers—to complement the existing 140MVA capacity at the Omisanjana substation in Ado Ekiti.”
He praised the Federal Government and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for accelerating progress on the substations, describing the initiative as transformative for the state’s energy landscape.
Aluko revealed that the project, which has been in progress for nearly three years, is approaching completion. “This is the largest batch of equipment we’ve received so far—15 trucks carrying various items including poles, wires, and transformers. We expect the project to be completed before the end of the year,” he added.
