The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Ajah Mega Axis, has announced plans to hold its 2026 Mega Musical Concert on May 24, 2026, as part of efforts to seek divine intervention in personal, national and global challenges while celebrating God’s faithfulness.

The programme, themed “Sing Praises to God,” is scheduled to take place at the auditorium of MFM Lagos Region 28, Adoro, opposite GTCO, Ajah, Lagos State.

According to the Mega Regional Overseer, Pastor Enojiasun Irabor, and the Chairman of the MFM Ajah Council of Regions, Pastor Gideon Shonde, the concert is designed to serve as a platform for worship and evangelism aimed at winning souls for Christ and inspiring hope among worshippers.

They explained that the event would also provide emotional, physical and spiritual healing, comfort and deliverance through worship and praise sessions.

The church further disclosed that free meals would be provided for about 1,200 attendees during the programme.

Speaking ahead of the concert, the Mega Regional Administrator, Pastor Oluwafunmilayo Ojo, alongside a member of the planning committee, Toyin Bawa-Allah, described the event as more than just a musical gathering.

According to them, the concert is intended to create an atmosphere of healing, hope and divine encounter through worship.

They noted that worship has the power to transform lives, restore hope and strengthen faith, adding that the programme would also bring salvation, miracles and generational blessings while drawing more people closer to God.

Also speaking, the Mega Regional Choir Leader, Olakunle Oladapo, said preparations had been concluded for the event.

He described music as therapeutic, noting that it contributes to emotional, physical, cognitive and social wellbeing.

Oladapo encouraged members of the public, especially those dealing with depression, emotional burdens, sickness and difficult situations, to attend the concert for healing and deliverance.

He added that ministrations would be led by MFM gospel ministers, special guest music ministers, the MFM Ajah Mega Axis Choir and other gospel ministers from various MFM branches across Lagos State.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the extension of health insurance coverage to retirees in the state under a newly introduced Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme (OGRHIS).

The initiative, according to a statement issued by the state Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, is aimed at ensuring that retired public servants continue to enjoy access to quality and affordable healthcare services after leaving active service.

Onasanya disclosed that the state government has approved the payment of N17.4 million monthly for retirees’ health insurance premiums, noting that beneficiaries would enjoy full insurance coverage without making any financial contribution.

He said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of retired workers who devoted their productive years to the development of Ogun State.

According to him, the scheme represents another milestone under Governor Abiodun’s social welfare agenda and is designed to safeguard the health needs of pensioners across the state.

The Head of Service explained that the new programme follows the successful implementation of the Public Sector Health Insurance Scheme introduced for serving public servants in August 2024.

He added that the development demonstrates the government’s deliberate policy direction toward inclusive healthcare coverage for both active and retired workers.

Under the Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme, beneficiaries will have access to a defined package of healthcare services through accredited health facilities across the state.

Onasanya noted that the scheme is expected to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses among retirees, prevent catastrophic healthcare spending and encourage continuous healthcare management.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 general elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The party announced the adjustment in a statement issued on Friday, noting that all other previously scheduled primary election dates remain unchanged.

According to the revised timetable released by the party, the House of Representatives primaries will now hold on Saturday, May 16, while the Senate primaries are scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.

The APC also confirmed that the State House of Assembly primaries will take place on Wednesday, May 20, followed by the governorship primaries on Thursday, May 21.

The party further stated that its presidential primary election remains fixed for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The development comes as the ruling party continues preparations for its internal electoral processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the recurring flooding affecting several communities across the state, warning that the situation is fast becoming a major ecological crisis.

Governor Otu made the appeal while receiving the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, and her delegation during a courtesy visit in Calabar as part of the 2026 National Flood Preparedness and Awareness Campaign.

The governor said flooding has continued to devastate many communities in Cross River State annually, destroying homes, farmlands and sources of livelihood.

According to him, despite previous engagements with relevant authorities on flood control measures, the challenge has persisted due to abandoned and incomplete drainage and water channel projects.

Otu noted that the absence of effective flood control infrastructure has intensified the impact of heavy rainfall and water releases, leaving communities located along flood-prone corridors vulnerable to repeated disasters.

He stressed that flooding in the state has gone beyond a seasonal issue and is gradually evolving into a wider environmental threat that requires urgent and coordinated intervention.

The governor therefore urged the Federal Government and relevant agencies to accelerate the completion of critical drainage systems and ecological projects aimed at mitigating the effects of flooding across the state.

Responding, NEMA Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said the visit formed part of the agency’s nationwide preparedness campaign following forecasts indicating that several states, including Cross River, are at high risk of flooding in 2026.

She identified vulnerable local government areas in the state to include Abi, Akamkpa, Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Etung, Ikom, Odukpani, Obubra and Obanliku.

Umar explained that the awareness campaign was designed to strengthen collaboration between the federal and state governments, as well as other stakeholders, to improve preparedness, reduce risks and minimise the impact of flooding on lives and property.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Kayode Oyekanmi as the new General Manager of Lagos State Television following the disengagement of the former General Manager, Sola Kosoko.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, presented the appointment letter to Oyekanmi during a brief ceremony held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

Agoro said the appointment was in recognition of Oyekanmi’s dedication, diligence and commitment in the discharge of his duties as a public servant.

He expressed confidence in the new appointee’s ability to reposition the station and wished him a successful tenure.

Before his appointment, Oyekanmi served as Director of the Strategy Centre at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, a position he held since 2022.

He is a communications and brand management professional with more than three decades of experience spanning the public and private sectors, with expertise in advertising, public relations and export services.

Oyekanmi began his public service career with the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy on March 1, 2000, as a public affairs practitioner.

A native of Isale Eko in Lagos Island, he has received several recognitions for his contributions to journalism and public communication.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Education from Lagos State University.

Oyekanmi is also a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.

He currently serves as the Charter President of the Lagos State Ministry of Information Toastmasters Club.

The trial of former Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Edetanlen, over alleged fraud involving $385,000 and ₦165.4 million has been adjourned to May 20, 2026.

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, fixed the new date after previously scheduled dates for the prosecution to open its case were vacated.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had earlier been scheduled to commence trial proceedings on May 13, 14 and 15 through the presentation of witnesses.

However, defence counsel, Adebowale Kamoru, informed the court that the defendant had filed a motion dated May 12, 2026, seeking an order striking out the charge and compelling the prosecution to provide documents and materials needed for the defence.

The defence argued that continuing with the charge after a forfeiture order had already been made against assets linked to the defendant could amount to an additional forfeiture.

The application led to arguments between the defence and prosecution counsel, Abba Muhammed (SAN), over access to documents and the reliefs being sought by the defence.

In response, the prosecution opposed the application, insisting that the matter was scheduled for commencement of trial. The prosecution also informed the court that a witness from Zenith Bank was present to tender statements of account which had allegedly been served on the defence.

During proceedings, Justice Oshodi urged both parties to resolve issues relating to documents outside the courtroom and directed the defence to specifically identify documents required for the trial instead of making broad references to pages in the proof of evidence.

The court also directed the prosecution to respond to the defence application after proper service.

Edetanlen was arraigned in February 2026 on a seven-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office, money laundering and unlawful enrichment by a public official. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the EFCC, the alleged offences contravene Sections 332(1), 332(3), 73(1) and 82(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital in Yola into the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to strengthen medical education and specialised healthcare delivery in the state.

The approval was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Awwal Tukur, during the inauguration of a committee set up to oversee the transition process.

According to the government, the decision followed a request by the management of Adamawa State University for the establishment of a clinical training facility for medical students within the state.

Tukur said the development would reduce reliance on teaching hospitals outside Adamawa for clinical training while also enhancing healthcare services, medical research and manpower development.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Augustine Clement, described the inauguration of the conversion committee as a major milestone in the institution’s growth and expansion.

The committee has been mandated to work out modalities for the seamless transition of the facility ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the Specialist Hospital Yola, Dauda Wadinga, and the Acting Provost of the Adamawa State College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Michael Misauno, commended the governor for approving the project.

They pledged their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the teaching hospital initiative.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

The submission took place at the party’s national secretariat amid heavy presence of supporters and loyalists who gathered ahead of Atiku’s arrival.

A video shared on the former vice president’s X handle showed a rowdy atmosphere around the venue as supporters struggled to gain access to the hall where the submission exercise was held.

In a statement accompanying the video, Atiku described the development as a decisive step in what he called a movement to restore prosperity and rebuild Nigeria.

According to him, the journey transcends politics and represents a collective effort aimed at renewing hope and rescuing the country from its current challenges.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally invited the President of Guinea, Mamadi Doumbouya, for a state visit to Nigeria following a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali on Thursday.

The development was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Sunday Dare, while briefing journalists after the engagement.

According to Dare, both leaders discussed areas of cooperation, particularly opportunities within Guinea’s vast mineral and metals sector, with prospects for deeper economic collaboration between the two countries.

He stated that President Doumbouya warmly received the invitation and was expected to visit Abuja in the near future.

“The President had a fruitful meeting, and Guinea is in debt to our president because he got some very good advice. Very soon, on the invitation of President Tinubu, he is likely to visit Nigeria,” Dare said.

Doumbouya, who recently won Guinea’s presidential election with 86.2 per cent of the vote, is currently overseeing the country’s transition to civilian democratic rule ahead of planned parliamentary elections expected within the next two weeks.

Dare noted that the meeting created new strategic opportunities for economic cooperation between Nigeria and Guinea, especially in the areas of mining, infrastructure and natural resources.

“Guinea has a lot of potential in metals, minerals and other sectors. The opening for partnership between Nigeria and Guinea has been established. The possibilities are enormous, and we expect to see further development in the coming years,” he added.

Guinea is regarded as one of Africa’s richest countries in mineral resources, possessing the world’s largest reserves of bauxite, the major raw material used in aluminium production, alongside significant deposits of iron ore, gold and diamonds.
