Ilorin, July 1, 2025 — Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has rewarded players of Kwara United Football Club and the club’s U-19 team with ₦5 million and plots of land each for their recent football triumphs.
At a reception held in Ilorin on Monday, the governor hosted the senior team for winning the 2025 President Federation Cup, as well as the U-19 squad, who clinched the inaugural National Youth League title. The gesture was announced in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.
Each player of the senior team will receive ₦5 million and a plot of land in the Kwara Smart City, while commendations were also extended to the youth team.
Kwara United secured their Federation Cup title after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout victory over second-tier side Abakaliki FC.
Describing the win as historic, Governor AbdulRazaq said, “This is the biggest trophy in Nigeria today. It predates even the national league and has a rich legacy. The trophy is in Kwara today, and I must congratulate everyone who made it possible.”
He also recounted the state of the club when he took office in 2019 and highlighted the transformation achieved under his administration.
The governor praised the coaching crew, management, and fans for their support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development in Kwara State.
