The family of former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, has confirmed his death at the age of 69.
A statement released on Sunday by his son, Solomon Arase Jnr., said the retired police chief passed away at about 9 a.m. on August 31, 2025, at Cedercrest Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.
“The Arase family of Benin-City, Edo State, hereby announces the passage of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police,” the statement read.
The family described him as a patriot who served Nigeria with distinction. After retiring as the 18th Inspector-General of Police, Arase went on to chair the Police Service Commission and also became a member of the Body of Benchers.
They appealed for the prayers and support of friends, associates, and well-wishers as burial arrangements are made, noting that details of his obsequies would be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told our correspondent that the police authorities were preparing an official statement to formally mourn the former IGP.
Arase, who was appointed Inspector-General in April 2015, previously headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the intelligence arm of the Nigeria Police Force.
