
After several years, the long arm of justice finally caught up with Yinusa Dahiru, the man who abducted teenager, Ese Oruru and forced her into marriage. Today, Thursday, a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State sentenced Dahiru to 26-year imprisonment.

It would be recalled that then 13 years old Ese Oruru was abducted by Dahiru on the 12th of August 2015 at her mother’s shop in Yenagoa and taken to Kano, where, the court ruled, she was raped, forcibly Islamized and married off without her parents’ consent.
In her judgement today, Thursday, Justice Jane Inyang acquitted Dahiru on Count one but sentenced him five years (count two), seven years (count three) seven years (count four) and seven years, count five.
According to the judge, the sentences are to run concurrently.
It is not yet clear if Dahiru will appeal the sentences.
