ADO-EKITI, July 27, 2025 — The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at former Governor Ayodele Fayose, asking him to formally exit the party after his scathing criticism during a televised interview.
Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti, Dare Adeleke, in a strongly worded statement on Saturday, accused Fayose of betraying the party and openly undermining its integrity while still claiming membership.
“Fayose himself admitted he is a bitter, disgruntled man who betrayed his party because he didn’t get what he wanted,” Adeleke said.
“He calls PDP a carcass, a dead entity, yet he continues to cling to it. Why not leave?”
Fayose, in the Friday interview, had lamented what he described as years of marginalisation and betrayal by the PDP leadership, despite his contributions.
“The soul of the PDP is gone, the spirit is gone; it is only the body that is remaining,” Fayose declared.
“The PDP will come fourth in the next general elections. In most states, they have already compromised.”
He also asserted that he had paid his dues in the party and insisted he would remain a PDP member regardless of internal conflicts.
But Adeleke rejected this posture, saying Fayose could not remain in the party while consistently tearing it down.
“If political parties were like the military, Fayose would’ve been court-martialed long ago. He behaves like a soldier selling secrets to the enemy and still expects promotion,” Adeleke said.
He noted that all PDP local government chairmen in Ekiti have disowned Fayose and condemned his conduct.
Adeleke further dismissed Fayose’s claims of influence, pointing out that despite rumours of defection, no ward or local government official had followed him to any other party.
“If he were truly as politically relevant as he thinks, he would have moved the PDP’s structure in Ekiti to the APC or ADC. But no one has followed him,” Adeleke stated.
“We will win the June 20, 2026 governorship election without the distractions of those who no longer believe in the PDP. We are building with true loyalists — not ADC-bound jokers.”
The exchange marks a fresh low in the long-running feud between Fayose and the PDP leadership in Ekiti, further deepening the cracks ahead of the 2026 polls.
