The Bayelsa State Government has signed a $3 million investment deal with Dubai-based Jampur Group to establish solar power and smart metering factories in the state.
The agreement, sealed on Thursday at Government House, Yenagoa, was announced in a statement by Governor Douye Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah. The investment will be fully funded by the conglomerate at no cost to the state government.
Governor Diri described the partnership as a milestone, noting that the project would not only benefit Bayelsa but also serve the Niger Delta, Nigeria, and the Gulf of Guinea.
“When completed, the factories will produce solar panels and smart meters locally, ending the need for Nigerians to travel abroad in search of these items,” Diri said. He added that smart meters would help eliminate disputes between consumers and electricity providers by enabling automatic disconnection of defaulters.
The governor also directed the Ministry of Power to ensure that Bayelsa youths are actively involved in the factories’ establishment and trained to participate in the power sector. He assured Jampur Group of an enabling environment to support its operations.
Diri highlighted Jampur’s previous role in supplying and installing the state’s 60MW gas turbines, underscoring the firm’s reputation in the energy sector.
Earlier, Jampur Group’s Chairman, Mohammed Shafiq, said the partnership would cover three key projects:
- A smart electric meter production plant,
- A solar panel manufacturing factory, and
- A fertiliser blending plant.
Shafiq confirmed that work on the metering factory would begin before the end of 2025.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Biriyai Dambo, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, on behalf of the Bayelsa State Government, while Bello Abdulahi represented Jampur Group.
Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company, hailed the deal as a “milestone” aligned with the ASSURED Prosperity Agenda of the Diri administration.
