The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has pledged continued support for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) after receiving an associate membership card and an award of excellence from the body.
The honour was presented to him on Tuesday by SWAN President, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, during a courtesy visit to the Speaker in Asaba.
Guwor, while expressing gratitude for the recognition, assured the association of his commitment to strengthening its activities and advancing sports development in the state.
“I’ll close the ranks with you, and I’ll continue to give my support. I am so grateful for the honour done me,” the Speaker said, likening SWAN’s gesture to a biblical act of gratitude.
He also highlighted his passion for sports and noted the legislature’s role in promoting sporting activities in Delta.
In his remarks, Benjamin commended Guwor’s contributions to sports in the state and across Nigeria, stressing that the recognition followed careful assessment of his efforts.
He further explained that the membership card, presented alongside the award, would be renewed annually, and expressed optimism that Guwor’s continued support would reinforce Delta’s reputation as a sports powerhouse.
