Igarra, Edo State – April 30, 2025 — An Edo State High Court sitting in Igarra has declared the impeachment of the Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Taju Alade, as illegal and has ordered his immediate reinstatement.
Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice B.A. Okoh ruled that the process leading to Alade’s removal did not follow due process, rendering the impeachment null and void.
The court also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure Alade receives adequate security as he resumes office.
The ruling marks a significant legal victory for Alade, who had challenged his impeachment by the local legislative council.
