ABUJA, Nigeria – The Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, has arrived in Nigeria for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding economic cooperation between both nations.
During her stay, Márquez is expected to meet with Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The discussions will focus on trade, investment, and areas of mutual interest, including security cooperation, education, and cultural exchange.
According to officials, the Colombian Vice President will also engage Nigerian business leaders and private sector representatives in Lagos, where opportunities for partnerships in energy, technology, agriculture, and the creative industries will be explored.
Her visit marks a significant step in deepening relations between Colombia and Nigeria, two of the largest economies in their respective regions. Diplomatic observers note that both countries share common challenges such as security, poverty alleviation, and the need for sustainable development, which could form the basis of stronger collaboration.
Márquez, the first Afro-Colombian woman to hold the office of Vice President, has been a strong advocate for social justice, women’s rights, and economic inclusion. Her trip to Nigeria is part of a wider African tour to enhance South-South cooperation.
