Orimerunmu Town, near Lagos, stood still on Sunday, November 9, 2025, as dignitaries, family, friends, and well-wishers from across Nigeria gathered to celebrate a man whose life embodies resilience, intellect, humility, and divine grace — Prince Adeola Amusat Hamsat, the distinguished son of the Laminisha Royal House of Ede, who turned 60 in grand style.

The air in Orimerunmu was festive — drums rolled, laughter echoed, and songs of gratitude rose to the heavens as guests paid tribute to a man fondly called Kabiyesi by those who know him — not for a throne he sits on, but for the grace and dignity with which he carries himself.

A Celebration of a Rare Royal

The event was a colorful convergence of royalty, academia, media veterans, community leaders, and professionals from diverse walks of life. The atmosphere radiated warmth and admiration for a man who, despite his royal heritage, built his life through sheer perseverance, intellect, and hard work.

Born at midnight on November 9, 1965, to Prince Amusat Bello (Baba Soja) and Mama Raliat Amope of the Pere Compound, Ede, Osun State, young Adeola’s story began in modest surroundings but with royal lineage.

His early education took him through Ishokun Primary School and Army Children School, Oyo, between 1970 and 1977. A pioneer student of Isale Oyo Community Grammar School, he later attended the iconic Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, where he completed his Higher School Certificate.

Life, however, would test his resolve. Two decades after secondary school, with responsibilities mounting and time racing, he chose to reignite his dream of higher learning. In 2002 — exactly twenty years later — he graduated from the University of Lagos with a B.A. in English. Unrelenting, he went on to earn an M.Sc. in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University in 2007, and later an M.A. in English and Literary Studies from his beloved Great Akokite.

Today, he is a proud scholar, a lifelong learner, and a man who has proven that dreams deferred are not dreams denied.

From Adman to Industry Icon

Prince Hamsat’s professional journey reads like a masterclass in advertising and communications excellence.

He began his career in 1998 at Sunrise DMB&B under the legendary Dr. May Nzeribe, before moving to Lowe Lintas in 2004 as Senior Manager, later seconded to Initiative Media where he led major multinational accounts including FrieslandCampina.

By 2010, he joined The Wetherhead Group as Group General Manager, Media and Communications — a position that cemented his reputation as a visionary media strategist.

In 2014, driven by entrepreneurial courage, he founded Hall 3 Production, an outdoor and media agency, and later Media Etc Global Consults, handling prestigious brands such as Honeywell, Unilever, MTN, and FrieslandCampina. He also sits as Group Managing Director of Medialogue Creative Ventures Ltd, overseeing a network of innovative communications companies.

By 1997, the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited (formerly the Nigerian Stock Exchange)

had reached a pivotal point, recognising the need to fortify its public communications Department. Under the visionary leadership of the late Apostle Hayford Alile, it launched a rigorous headhunt for a communications professional whose expertise and character aligned with its values, image, and evolving aspirations for corporate excellence. Eventually, the mantle fell on Olusola Jacob Oni (widely known in the industry as Sola Oni), a journalist at The Guardian newspaper, Nigeria’s media flagship. Indeed, it was a twist of irony or perhaps destinyfor Oni to have emerged as the preferred ideal candidate by the Exchange. His consistent, insightful, and pungent reports on the capital market had become a tool for decision-making for capital market executives, which, in several instances, had also made the leadership on the Exchange uncomfortable. The

strength of Oni’s network of sources and insider access, coupled with his journalistic instinct and news qpresentation style, stood him out.

However, Oni’s transition to the Exchange was expected by the broader capital stakeholders, who had already marked him out as a future player in the market beyond the media.

At one point, Oni was temporarily de-accredited by the management of the Exchange, a reaction to his unflinching reporting. The Exchange formally requested that The Guardian assign a new correspondent. However, the newspaper stood its ground. Recognising the depth, credibility, and insight Oni brought to capital market coverage, The Guardian’s management made a clear statement: whether officially granted access or not, Oni would continue to cover the beat. Confronted with this quiet resistance and fully aware of Oni’s influence in the financial press, the Exchange reversed its decision and reinstated his accreditation.

Oni joined the Exchange as a core financial journalist with a strong pedigree. But his transition into corporate communications was far from incidental; it was intentional. For many years, he worked under the tutelage of Mrs. Yinka Idowu, a public relations virtuoso. Under her guidance, he blended-journalistic precision with strategic messaging and corporate diplomacy.

On the Exchange, Oni donned his innate garment of intellect and strong work ethic like a camel in its natural habitat – the desert -and the water bears in the ocean. He continuously fired his intellectual projectile so high that within a short period , everyone in the organisation appreciated his contributions. He became a corporate champion, being sought after for troubleshooting.

By setting ambitious targets for himself, Oni rose to every challenge like a phoenix from the flames. He evolved into a high-stakes, reflective leader, widely seen as a future top executive. His performance spoke for itself, so much so that no one could question his merit. His bold and impactful contributions earned him rapid, successive promotions that were beyond dispute. It was only fitting, then, that he was entrusted with significant responsibilities, all of which he carried out with unwavering diligence.

Apostle Hayford Alile retired as Director General in 1999 and was succeeded by Professor Ndi Okereke-Onyuike (then Dr. Okereke-Onyuike), who also recognized Oni’s potential. Some years later, she promptly endorsed Accenture’s recommendation, leading to his deployment to the Market Operations Directorate, a strategic move that positioned him for higher responsibilities.

For the thirteen years he spent on the Exchange, Oni’s performance was nothing short of exemplary. He poured his heart and soul into every task, leaving a lasting legacy that is still reverberating till date.

One of the qualities that defines Oni is his ability to navigate power circles untainted. Physically tall and morally upright, Oni’s stature mirrors his towering integrity index. He lives simply, remains content, and shows gratitude for what God has done for him. You can do business with him, shake hands, and sleep well – knowing no storm can shift his moral compass.

As an Ekiti man, he is well-cultured in tradition, universal ethics, and values. He earned people’s respect because he believes he owes them more in a relationship.

Our paths crossed in 1991 in Gongola State (now Adamawa), where I was posted to the National Spectator Newsmagazine in Yola for my NYSC.

He was to be my immediate boss. However, I was redeployed to another location, and we lost contact.

But fate brought us together in 1998 when I was posted to the NSE as a market correspondent for The Punch newspaper, where Oni was already making waves. He has since then remained my mentor, benefactor, friend, and much more – my brother, from whom I am still learning.

Today, Oni is a multi-faceted, well-respected professional. He wears many hats: Veteran journalist, Integrated Communications Strategist, Chartered Stockbroker, Commodities Broker, Capital Market Registrar, and Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), UK, amongst others.

As a prolific writer, Oni is now a voice in the capital market. His commentaries on capital market policy, structure, regulation, investor protection, transparency, and reputation management are well respected and regularly published in top media outlets.

At 65, Oni is not yet done. He is still steaming and incubating ideas, beaming with the energy common to a serial entrepreneur. Like Colonel Harland Sanders, the American who franchised Kentucky Fried Chicken at 62, Oni remains pregnant with possibility. He is the Proprietor of Sofunix International Schools, founder and CEO of Sofunix Investment and Communications,and Publisher of The Kernel Online Newspaper. These ventures reflect his passion for education, capital market development, and strategic communication. As a hybrid entrepreneur, he is regularly sought after by corporate giants for brand positioning, training, and communications strategy.

A devoted family man, Oni is married to Olufunke, a retired Director of Education, and they are blessed with children who reflect the same sense of discipline and responsibility. Faith is central to Oni’s life. He served on the Parish Council of St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Anthony Village, Lagos, for ten years and had previously served as chairman of the church’sHarvest Committee. His service in other churches also reflects his commitment to spiritual leadership and community.

“On behalf of my family, I celebrate His Excellency, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on his 81st birthday and his ascension as the 44th Olubadan. Ladoja’s story is that of a man favoured by God, a principled statesman and a dogged fighter for justice, equity, and fairness,” Ibori said.

Abuja | September 12, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, as he marked his 73rd birthday and 22nd anniversary on the throne.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the monarch as a statesman who has devoted his reign to fostering peace, unity, and reconciliation across Nigeria.

“Etsu Nupe has contributed immensely to nation-building. He has used his revered position to promote unity, harmony, religious tolerance, peace, and reconciliation in the country,” the statement read.

The President also praised the monarch’s humility, courage, and leadership, noting his roles as Chairman of the Abuja Mosque and Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.

Born in 1952, Yahaya Abubakar served in the Nigerian Army, where he held key operational positions before retiring as a Brigadier-General. He ascended the throne in 2003 as the 13th Etsu Nupe.

Family, friends, church leaders, and associates from across the world have paid glowing tributes to the Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Mike Okonkwo, as he marked his 80th birthday on Saturday.

In a statement, his wife, Peace Okonkwo, described the cleric as “a man with a very good heart—kind-hearted, loving, God-fearing, and full of integrity.” While many know him for his fiery style on the pulpit, she noted that at home he is gentle, shy, and deeply family-oriented.

“Most people see his passion while preaching and might think him aggressive and forceful—yes, against anything that contends with God’s plan for your life in Christ. But Bishop is a private, shy, peaceful, and easy-going man,” she said, adding that he is also a skilled cook who once taught her a few recipes.

The couple’s daughter, Lady Uche Asugha, praised him as her greatest influence after God, especially in shaping her Christian faith. She recalled how his firm discipline initially intimidated her as a child but has since blossomed into a close-knit relationship grounded in love, respect, and faith.

Her husband, Kachi Asugha, described the octogenarian as more than a father-in-law. “Even as a child in the Royal Children’s Church, I recognised one voice among many—so distinct, passionate, and thundering, it compelled action,” he said, recalling how he once imitated Okonkwo’s preaching style as a boy.

Others also recounted the bishop’s impact. Deacon Austin Chuks-Okonta, from Port Harcourt, testified that his life changed after hearing Okonkwo preach in 1991. “Since then, my life has been a bundle of testimonies.
