It was a theatre of war yesterday Monday 22,2019 when the Shiites sect clashed with the Police. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria ( IMN) were protesting against the continued incarceration of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzakt despite a court order grantimg him bail. At the end of the face- off, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Usman Umar lost his life while 2 other officers in the rank of ASP were critically injured .

Sadly also, Precious Owolabi, a 22 year old Youth Corps member working with Channels TV lost his life after he was caught in the exchange of gun shots. The Shiites’ president of Media Forum however exonerated the sect from the killings as he said that they don’t carry guns. Rather as according to him, the Police ” took away bodies of its members killed during the protest ” ,which he termed ” peaceful” until the Police prevented them from passing through the Federal Secretariat.

Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer said in a statement ” another violent protest by members of the El-ZakZakky group involving over 3000 of his followers took place today (Monday) at about 12.30 within the Central Business District, Abuja”.

54 members of the sect were arrested by the Police and according to the them, normalcy has returned. But the question remains, will El-Zakzaky be released as ordered by a court since last year to prevent this bloodbath from reoccurring?
