Abuja, April 28, 2025 – A High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late popular gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of her murder.
The judgment was delivered on Monday by Justice Nwosu-Iheme, marking the conclusion of a trial that began following Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022.
Nwachukwu’s trial commenced on June 3, 2022, after the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), representing the Federal Government, filed a 23-count charge against him. The charges included culpable homicide punishable by death, spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation.
The prosecution presented 17 witnesses during the proceedings, including two of the couple’s children, who testified against Nwachukwu. In her ruling, Justice Nwosu-Iheme stated that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, and that Nwachukwu failed to exonerate himself from the allegations.
The court’s verdict brings to a close a high-profile case that has drawn widespread public attention and renewed conversations about domestic violence and spousal abuse in Nigeria.
