ÃŒn a very controversial move that is bound to raise eyebrows across the land, President Buhari has forwarded the name of the Head of the Lagos office of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa to the Senate as his nominee for the office of EFCC Chairman.
The nominee has once been accused of pilfering exhibits seized from suspects but this was apparently not established. It remains to be seen how this background would impact on the credibility of a man expected to be above board and rid the nation of endemic corruption.
Already, Nigerians are complaining about this nominee. According to a Twitter user, Daniel Regha, “Is this not the Abdulrasheed Bawa that was once arrested for theft? He’s now Head Of Lagos EFCC zonal office? How can the govt claim to be fighting corruption yet applauding people who were arrested for criminal activities. God help us in the country cos corruption is the logo.”
Peter Goodluck Sholare also tweets: “Appointing somebody who’s allegedly been arrested/accused for theft to head an agency dealing with stolen money and property? You already know what it is!”
Another Twitter user, Damá»la Korede however sees nothing wrong in the nomination: “As expected. We all knew Mr Magu ain’t coming back. Surprisingly he’s quite young. Impressive.”
Details later.
