Bauchi | July 22, 2025 — Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and remodelling of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex—a landmark project valued at ₦7.8 billion.
The governor described the initiative as a critical investment to revamp the legislative arm’s infrastructure, which had remained largely untouched for nearly two decades. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months.
“This complex has not seen any significant renovation in almost 20 years,” Governor Mohammed said at the event. “We are committed to providing a conducive and modern workspace for our legislators to function effectively. We have also made provision for temporary office accommodation during the construction period.”
The governor disclosed that the contract was awarded to Mr. Architeronics Nigeria Limited, chosen based on its strong track record in delivering quality public infrastructure projects. He also revealed plans to develop dedicated housing for the three arms of government, which, he emphasized, will not be sold to individuals in order to safeguard institutional independence and enhance security.
Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, who is supervising the project, outlined the renovation’s scope. It includes:
- Complete remodelling of the legislative complex
- Renovation of the administrative block, committee building, power house, and mosque
- Construction of a new Assembly Service Commission building and a dedicated office block for Honourable members
- Rehabilitation of internal roads, drainages, and the perimeter fence
- Installation of a 100KVA solar backup power plant
- Overhaul of the water supply system
- Construction of a new gate and gatehouse
Kawule assured the public of strict monitoring to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of the project.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing the legislature’s working conditions. He noted that since the complex was built in the 1980s, it had only undergone a minor renovation in 2011.
“This gesture shows the governor’s respect for the separation of powers and his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions in Bauchi State,” the Speaker said.
The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, lawmakers, and political stakeholders.
