Bauchi, September 9, 2025 — Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the disbursement of ₦945.25 million for the 2024/2025 scholarship programme for indigenes of the state, with ₦800 million already released to beneficiaries across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The National President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Bello Ibrahim, disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday, describing the intervention as historic in both scale and impact.
According to him, a total of 21,901 students applied for the scheme, while 19,546 verified beneficiaries have so far received ₦801.26 million across 154 tertiary institutions nationwide. He added that the outstanding ₦145.25 million would be cleared soon.
“For too long, scholarship payments had become a matter of doubt, delay, and disappointment. Many students struggled with tuition, examinations, and basic sustenance due to irregularities in disbursement. But today, under the compassionate leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, it has become a source of renewed trust, confidence, and reassurance,” Ibrahim said.
Global Opportunities for Bauchi Students
The NUBASS president also revealed that Governor Mohammed had sponsored 100 Bauchi students for advanced studies in China, with the first batch already on their way. He described the initiative as a visionary investment in international education aimed at equipping Bauchi youths to compete globally in science, technology, and innovation.
Boosting Campus Security and Student Welfare
On security, Ibrahim noted that the union engaged with the Bauchi State Police Command over rising cases of insecurity around campuses. He confirmed that the Commissioner of Police had approved the establishment of a police station at Wuntin Dada to protect Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and surrounding areas, alongside increased patrols and surveillance near schools.
He also highlighted other recent achievements by NUBASS, including:
- Renovation of the union’s secretariat, abandoned for over a decade.
- Distribution of free JAMB registration pins and orientation for indigent students.
- Hosting of Bauchi’s first-ever EDUTECH Conference, bringing together policymakers, scholars, and students to explore the future of digital education.
- Consistent advocacy and interventions on scholarships, campus tours, and student welfare.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Mohammed, security agencies, and the student community, Ibrahim described the scholarship scheme as “an investment in human capital, the most precious asset of any society.”
He assured that NUBASS would continue to champion students’ welfare while working with government and stakeholders to ensure safer and more supportive learning environments.
