By Abu-Ubaida Ibrahim Kuna. The city of Kaltungo became a political Mecca of sorts as People’s Democratic Party, PDP faithful from all over the north and beyond converged in the headquarter city of Gombe South Senatorial district to kick-start the gubernatorial and the general PDP state wide campaign in the last bastion of the party in the north east. The rousing event occurred today, 21st January, 2019. The gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Bayero Nafada displayed infectious optimism with the state governor, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of a resurgence of PDP in the North East as the party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku…
By Fred Chukwuelobe Yes, I am. I Just left a hotel in Enugu where I’ve been staying since yesterday. I opted for a low budget hotel because times are hard. But that’s not the story; the story is that the hotel is in bad shape, badly run and supervised by a bunch of frustrated staff who, from the look of things, are poorly remunerated. Again, that not the story. The sad story is that the hotel’s main guests are Yahoo boys and girls in their 20s. Don’t ask me how I know they are Yahoo boys and girls. I know…
Strong speculations were rife last night with the surprise visit of the PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar GCFR to Washington DC. Prior to this surprise visit by Atiku, accompanied by prominent members of the opposition PDP including Senate President Sà rà kà and popular Senator Ben Murray Bruce, there had been insinuations that the candidate was afraid to travel to the States for the fear of being detained by the Americans for yet uncertain reasons. The visit yesterday put to rest that line and perhaps set in motion another series of permutations from both sides of tree tree political divide. Last night,…

By Abu-Ubaida Ibrahim Kuna As facts continued to emerge during the January 12, 2019 Press briefing by ten out of the eleven “Garkuwa Saidu Local Govt Coordinators for Friends of ATIKU Organisation in Gombe Stateâ€, the multifarious factors that compelled Saidu Kumo to once again jump ship from the PDP to the APC are now falling into identifiable lines. Eyebrows were raised when one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides on New Media, Bashir Ahmed tweeted on Friday thus: “Senator Saidu Umar Kumo from Gombe and North East DG Atiku/PDP Presidential Campaign Council has dumped PDP and joined the moving train…
Being a paper presented by Abu-Ubaida Ibrahim Kuna at Bayero Each One Mobilize One Hundred Project Symposium Lecture on 30th December, 2018. INTRODUCTION I have been invited to speak on the role of social media in political campaigns and I should say it is an expansive topic to tackle within a very short notice. However, let me bring the topic home to most of us by trying to rephrase the topic. I think the subject matter would make more meaning and therefore capture the attention of many people if we talk about the place of young people in contemporary democracies.…
By Odolaye Aremu I miss my family as a Unit. My dad, my mum and all of my siblings, who I usually outmaneuvered yearly, to be the one to have the first meal delivered to my grandad. You see the family is the bedrock of any society. And that’s not totally different from where I am from. The dynamics of the African family is such, that love and good memories stay salient at the bottom like slices of yams in a pot, sitting on a hot stove. The scathing letter writings and silly cat fights come much later, it causes…

By Abu-Ubaida Ibrahim Kuna Governor Dankwambo once told us: “I may not be able to change the topography of Gombe, but I can do something about the incessant road traffic accidents.†With that he explained the vision that drove the urban renewal programme that changed the face of Gombe as the capital city.
