Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, has suffered defeat in the hands of Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential Candidate of the APC. Wild jubilation broke out following the announcement that Mr Buhari scored 186 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar, who got 167 votes. Atiku loyalists have reacted to the results, saying the unit has been historically won by Mr Buhari. The results from Atiku’s polling unit are amongst some of the early returns trickling in from across the country in today’s presidential and federal parliamentary elections. Buhari also overwhelmingly won his polling unit in Daura, Katsina State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed earlier, through its Twitter handle, that the Zamfara APC will participate in the on-going elections.
President Buhari, while speaking to news agents after casting his vote, said he will congratulate himself because he will be the winner of the elections. When asked, “If you lose this election, will you accept defeat and congratulate the winner and hand over power to the next government?” He replied, “I will congratulate myself, i am going to be the winner. Thank you very much.” He said same in response to the BBC Hausa correspondent who asked the same question in Hausa.
