Royal Dutch Shell is making a bet on home battery storage as it tries to boost its sustainable energy business.The oil giant announced Friday that it has purchased Sonnen, a German startup that makes residential battery systems that store energy generated from solar panels. The move puts Shell in direct competition with companies such as Samsung, LG and Tesla, which makes a home battery system called the Powerwall. General Motors newest product is an e-bike called ArÄ«v, and it is now available for ordering, at least in some parts of the world.The name, which is pronounced “arrive,” was chosen through a web-based crowd sourcing program in which the person with the winning suggestion was to be awarded $10,000. Google Maps thinks large cartoon arrows can help users navigate better. Recently, Google began letting some users test a new augmented-reality feature in its mobile app that shows graphics — such as highlighted arrows and street names floating in midair — over a live view from their camera on their smartphone screens. It is meant to help them navigate city streets. Google’s Rachel Inman, who works on user-experience for the new feature, said the company hopes to make it simpler to go between the two-dimensional map on your phone and the three-dimensional world around you. Osaretin Igbinedion, the second son of Lucky Igbinedion, a past Edo State Governor, and his nephew, Esosa Oyemwense, died yesterday in a fatal auto crash at around 3am in Texas, United States after their car collided with an 18-wheeler. Osaretin graduated from the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration with a degree in marketing, and a minor in economics after which he was awarded a Masters degree in International Management from the Northeastern University. Uber lost $1.8 billion in 2018 according to the company’s select financial results for 2018 released on Friday. Its now been one year since CEO Dara Khosrowshahi took the reins. The $1.8Billion loss is an improvement from one year ago when the company reported $2.2 billion in losses. The company also recorded a reduction in its sales growth as revenue hit $3 billion in the final three months of 2018, up just 2% from the prior quarter and up 25% from the same period a year ago.
