The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mrs. Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, has emerged winner of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday in Ogun State.
Announcing the results at the INEC Collation Centre in Ikenne in the early hours of Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Bello, declared Ayoola-Elegbeji winner after she polled 41,237 votes.
Her closest rival, Bola Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 14,324 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) trailed with just 289 votes.
A breakdown of the results showed Ayoola-Elegbeji’s dominance across the three local government areas:
- Ikenne LGA: APC – 10,227 | PDP – 5,595 | ADC – 73
- Remo North LGA: APC – 8,052 | PDP – 992 | ADC – 37
- Sagamu LGA: APC – 22,958 | PDP – 7,737 | ADC – 179
Prof. Bello, while making the declaration, said:
“The APC candidate, Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, having fulfilled all requirements of the Electoral Act and having secured the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the by-election to fill the vacant seat of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of the House of Representatives.”
The vacancy arose following the death of Mrs. Adewunmi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya, who passed away on January 15 after a brief illness.
In her victory speech, Ayoola-Elegbeji expressed gratitude to the people of the constituency for their overwhelming support, promising to deliver effective representation. She pledged to focus on youth empowerment, job creation, and infrastructural renewal to sustain the legacy of her predecessor.
