The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Lagos State local government elections, clinching all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions, according to official results released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Sunday.
The elections, held on Saturday, July 12, covered all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
LASIEC Chairperson Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.) described the poll as “largely peaceful”, despite reports of low voter turnout and isolated concerns of irregularities in some areas.
In a notable upset, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a rare councillorship win in Ward D of Yaba LCDA, where Babatunde Dosunmu, a former APC member who recently defected to the PDP, defeated the ruling party’s candidate.

The APC’s clean sweep further consolidates its political dominance in Lagos, a state it has controlled since the return to democracy in 1999.
Party leaders have lauded the outcome as a reflection of public confidence in the APC’s leadership at the grassroots, while opposition parties have raised concerns about fairness and voter disenfranchisement.
LASIEC is expected to issue official certificates of return to all winning candidates in the coming days.
