The stage is set at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos as the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) kicks off tonight, promising an unforgettable evening of glamour, celebration, and recognition of Africa’s finest in film and television.
The prestigious event, which will be broadcast live across Africa Magic channels, will bring millions of viewers across the continent closer to the continent’s top cinematic talents. Since its inception, the AMVCA has grown to become Africa’s foremost film and television awards ceremony, spotlighting the creativity and excellence within the industry.
This year’s awards feature 28 categories, including 16 non-voting, 10 audience-voting, and two special recognition categories – the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. The nominations span works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024, across film, television, and digital content.
Among the standout contenders are Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, which garnered multiple nominations, including Best Movie and Best Director. Notably, five of the eight films in the Best Movie category were featured on streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Prime, underlining the growing global reach of African storytelling.
Tonight’s ceremony is expected to dazzle with red carpet moments, star-studded appearances, and emotional wins, as Africa’s creative community gathers to celebrate its own.
