An alumnus of Liberty Academy, Ibadan, Wale Aribatise, has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently renovate classroom blocks and other structures at the school that were destroyed by a rainstorm.
Aribatise, who is based in Ekiti State, raised the alarm in a statement titled “SOS to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State”, released on Sunday in Ado Ekiti. He said the school’s infrastructure had been in deplorable condition since June 8, 2025, when a violent rainstorm blew off the roofs of several classrooms and buildings.
According to him, although the incident was reported to the Oyo State Government, the affected ministries of Education and Works have yet to take steps to address the damage.
“With schools in Oyo State set to resume in mid-September, students of Liberty Academy deserve a conducive environment to learn,” he said. “The damaged buildings remain without renovation, and this raises serious concerns about the comfort and safety of returning pupils.”
He further urged the governor to treat the matter as an emergency.
“I don’t want to believe that the Government of Oyo State only attends to distress calls when it concerns people close to them,” Aribatise said. “This school belongs to the Oyo State Government. Swift intervention is necessary to protect students from inclement weather and ensure learning continues without disruption.”
