September 14, 2025 — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed media reports claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed and released a list of its state chairmen across the country.
In a statement on Sunday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the report was false and intended to mislead party members and the public.
“The attention of the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to a widely circulated statement titled ‘Coalition Update: INEC Confirms ADC State Chairmen Nationwide’, which purports that INEC has released and validated a list of State Party Chairmen for the ADC across the country,” Abdullahi stated.
He stressed that INEC has issued no such confirmation, either officially or unofficially, adding that the electoral body only recognises lists submitted through the appropriate party channels after due diligence.
“As of today, no such comprehensive list has been submitted or confirmed by INEC,” he clarified.
The spokesman reaffirmed that the ratification of state leadership remains an internal matter strictly guided by the ADC constitution. He further urged members to remain vigilant against misinformation aimed at creating confusion within the party.
The clarification comes amid ongoing leadership tensions within the ADC. INEC recently recognised former Senate President David Mark as national chairman, a move that has sparked internal disputes. A court has also summoned Mark and the party’s national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, over controversies surrounding the leadership changes.
ADC, however, denied reports of a court injunction barring INEC from recognising the Mark-led leadership, describing such claims as another round of “fake news from desperate political jobbers.”
