The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has pledged a tougher stance on irregular payments and non-compliance in the implementation of constituency projects, promising stricter enforcement of government financial guidelines.
This assurance was made in a statement released Thursday by the OAGF’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, following a strategic meeting in Abuja between the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Onwusoro Ihemelandu.
During the meeting, Ogunjimi reaffirmed the OAGF’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s efforts to ensure that constituency projects strictly adhere to established government circulars and procedures.
“We will give bite to these guidelines. We will ensure they are not only properly projected but also form part of the required documentation for every constituency project,” Ogunjimi stated.
He added that the guidelines will feature prominently in OAGF stakeholder engagements, with the Ministry of Special Duties granted platforms to make presentations to bolster compliance and awareness.
Ogunjimi also noted that upcoming OAGF circulars, especially those concerning project closure and capital projects, will include explicit emphasis on adherence to constituency project protocols.
