The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the identity of a traffic officer captured in a viral video allegedly attempting to extort money from a commercial tricycle operator in Umuahia.
The video, which surfaced on Facebook, showed the officer confronting a Keke rider in what appeared to be an extortion attempt.
Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, in a statement on Monday on behalf of Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, said the officer had been traced and the case handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for probe.
“The Abia State Police Command is aware of the trending video… The officer involved has been identified, and investigation into the incident is ongoing,” the statement read.
Chinaka added that the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, stressing that officers must remain professional, service-driven, and people-friendly in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
