ADO-EKITI, July 8, 2025 — Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday officially swore in Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the sixth substantive Chief Judge of the state, urging him to uphold the principles of justice, integrity, and impartiality in the discharge of his duties.
Justice Ogunmoye, who had been serving in an acting capacity since November 5, 2024, following the passing of his predecessor, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, was confirmed by the Ekiti State House of Assembly on July 3, 2025, after receiving recommendations from the judiciary committee.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, was attended by top government officials, members of the judiciary, traditional rulers, and civil society leaders.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Oyebanji described the role of the Chief Judge as “a sacred trust,” emphasizing that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.
“Your Lordship, history will judge you not by the accolades you receive today, but by the legacy you leave behind,” Oyebanji said. “In this position, courage and integrity must be your constant companions.”
He called on the new Chief Judge to ensure that the judicial arm under his leadership maintains high standards of fairness, accountability, and accessibility.
“Let it be said in years to come that under your leadership, the judiciary of Ekiti State reached a higher standard—one that ensured justice for all, regardless of status, gender, or circumstance,” the governor added.
Governor Oyebanji also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to judicial independence and promised continued support in the areas of welfare, infrastructure, and institutional strengthening.
In his remarks, Justice Ogunmoye expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, pledging to uphold the rule of law and work closely with all stakeholders to improve access to justice and judicial efficiency in the state.
Justice Ogunmoye brings to the role decades of judicial experience and is widely respected within legal circles for his discipline, deep legal knowledge, and administrative competence.
