There are indications that few days to the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, the Governors on the platform of the party are working for a consensus presidential candidate to emerge.

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s appeal on Tuesday for the governors to allow him pick his successor, the Governors on the platform of the party are now working to achieve the goal and pacify the presidential aspirants who are not picked as the consensus candidate to remain loyal to the party.

It was reported on Thursday that the Governors on the platform of APC has disclosed that presidential aspirants who agree to step down for the consensus candidate will be refunded the N100 million they used to purchase the nomination forms.

The report explained that, “those who accept to step down will be refunded their N100 million nomination form fees or rewarded with positions if APC wins”.
To achieve the goal of President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC governors are reportedly meeting to presidential aspirants on regional basis to prevail on them to shelve their presidential ambition for the consensus candidate. This move by the Governors is to ensure that the presidential aspirants who are not picked as the consensus candidate remain committed to the party and also work for the success of APC in their respective states in the 2023 presidential race.

Despite this move, President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC Governors have not revealed who will emerge as the consensus candidates amongst the 23 presidential aspirants on the platform of the party.
