FG/ ASUU SHOWDOWN: NO AGREEMENT REACHED, STRIKE CONTINUES

In swift response to the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government held an emergency meeting with the union leadership led by the union’s President- Professor Biodun Ogunyemi in the early hours of Tuesday.

After the three hours long meeting, the Federal Government again failed to come to conclusion with the demands of the academics, the implication of which suggests that the indefinite suspension of activities by lecturers in all public owned universities will continue if the imbroglio is properly attended to.

It would be recalled that ASUU declared strike about three weeks ago after the Federal Government failed to reach consensus with demands of the union.

While reacting to questions by journalist, the President of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said the ‘meeting to resolve the over three weeks industrial action would continue at a later date’.

The University Don appealed to the government and ASUU to go beyond resolving the current industrial action and provide lasting solutions that would make incessant strike in the education sector a thing of the past
