Nsukka | July 22, 2025 — The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) will confer First Class Honours on 167 students at its 54th convocation ceremony, scheduled to take place later this week.
This was announced on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the university’s Enugu campus, where the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, revealed that a total of 9,821 students will graduate with first degrees and diplomas.
“These figures reflect the dedication and hard work of our students, as well as the commitment of our faculty and staff,” Ujam told journalists.
The breakdown of the graduating students is as follows:
- First Class Honours: 167
- Second Class Honours (Upper Division): 3,485
- Second Class Honours (Lower Division): 5,217
- Third Class Honours: 739
- Pass: 33
- Unclassified Degrees: 180
In addition to undergraduate degrees, 1,892 students will receive postgraduate diplomas and higher degrees:
- PhDs: 616
- MSc degrees: 1,101
- MBA degrees: 133
Professor Ujam, whose six-month tenure as acting Vice-Chancellor ends next month, also announced that the convocation lecture will be delivered on July 24, 2025 by Mr. Ukandu Eme Ukandu, Managing Director/CEO of Firstcap Limited and Chairman of First City Monument Bank. The lecture is titled “Educated to Rise: From Struggle to Global Strength.”
Highlighting recent institutional strides, Ujam pointed to the establishment of the Directorate of Grants and Scholarships, aimed at strengthening the university’s ability to attract external research funding and support student scholarships.
“This new directorate demonstrates our commitment to nurturing talent and driving innovation, ensuring that UNN continues to be a leader in knowledge creation,” he said.
The convocation ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries, alumni, and academic stakeholders from across the country.
