The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, have paid glowing tributes to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, marking 15 years since his death while in office in 2010.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the PDP described Yar’Adua, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2007 to 2010, as “a leader of integrity, humility, and vision,” noting that his contributions to national development continue to resonate.
“Fifteen years on, Nigeria still mourns one of its finest — and I still remember a friend whose quiet wisdom helped shape my understanding of service. President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua led with conviction, not commotion,” the statement read.
Joining the chorus of remembrance, Saraki hailed Yar’Adua as a rare example of principled leadership. He recalled the late president as a leader who embodied humility, justice, and a deep sense of national duty.
“He listened more than he spoke — and when he did speak, it was with purpose, not politics,” Saraki said. “His legacy reminds us that leadership is not about power, but about duty, humility, and justice. May Almighty Allah (SWT) continue to grant him a place among the righteous in Al Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
Yar’Adua, who was elected under the PDP platform, is often remembered for initiating key reforms in public service and the electoral process, as well as for his acknowledged honesty and calm leadership style.
